Lonny Stern

Lonny joined the Hope Street Group in June 2007 and is based in Austin, TX. As Communications & Outreach Director, he oversees all media and public relations, creates and manages a vibrant online community, works to build organizational membership locally and nationally, and supports Hope Street Group's programming and policy teams.

Lonny has been involved in non-profit and governmental organizations since 1993. Most recently he worked as a Research Analyst in the County Affairs; Arts, Culture & Recreation; and Energy Committees for the House Research Organization (HRO) at the Texas House of Representatives. He has also led transportation research teams for Good Company Associates and the Congressional Research Service. In the non-profit sector, Lonny has served as the Executive Director for the Austin Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival (aGLIFF), the Promotions Director for 91.7FM-KOOP Radio, the Public Relations Director for Project Transitions, and assisted with media relations for Florida Governor Lawton Chiles. Lonny has additionally been involved as a consultant for the 18th National Alliance for Media Arts & Culture (NAMAC) Conference and is a licensed REALTOR.

Lonny holds a Masters in Public Affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, where he served on the editorial staff of the LBJ Journal and was the Chair of the Distinguished Speaker Series. He completed his undergraduate studies in English and Communications at Florida State University.
