Orientation Tasks

Posted by Vance Hickin Jul 13, 2009
Here's a roundup of four steps you can take to familiarize yourself with the Policy 2.0 platform and get ready for the Teacher Evaluation Systems project.  These are also found in individual tasks on the Welcome to Policy 2.0! project.

  1. Edit Your Profile.

Please edit your personal profile. Your Bio should include information about your professional background and particular expertise relevant to this project, as well as anything else you'd like the rest of the policy team to know about you. Refer to the document "Your Profile and Your Stuff" for help editing your profile, or contact Catherine Cullen at catherine@hopestreetgroup.org or 301-922-3755.

  2. Read Hope Street Group's Education Mission.
If you haven't already, please take a moment to read Hope Street Group's Education Mission. These broad principles will guide our work on Teacher Evaluation Systems.

  3. Explore the Policy 2.0 Content Tools. The main tools within Policy 2.0 are Discussions, Blogs, and Documents. Please refer to the Policy 2.0 Content Tools document to learn more about each content type. We will begin to create content and have discussions after the recruitment period, in early July.

  4. Get familiar with the Teacher Evaluation Systems policy problem. Why Teacher Evaluation Systems? Because teachers are the most important factor in helping students achieve, but current teacher evaluation systems are inadequate for effectively rewarding excellence and identifying growth opportunities for those who struggle. Many potential human capital reforms in education rest on the strength of teacher evaluation systems. We'll be digging into the research base after the recruitment period in early July. For now, check out "Rush to Judgement" from Education Sector and "The Widget Effect" from The New Teacher Project (as well as this accompanying New York Times Editorial) for background.
